The Becketts

Cornerstone Crossroads Academy was founded by Jim and Jane Beckett of Dallas, Texas

The Becketts were inspired to begin the school after they volunteered in the City's juvenile justice system. Based on their experiences, the Becketts believed that many good kids were lost in "the system". These kids had given up on their dream of graduating from high school in order to avoid what had become daily confusion and disappointment due to the large, public school environment. Crossroads was funded primarily through the generosity of the Becketts until their retirement in 2010

Today, CCA receives funding from grants and private donors. God has provided and continues to provide for all of the school's needs.

A Typical School Day

Hours: School starts at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 2:00 p.m., with tutorials available from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm.

Block schedule: Cornerstone Crossroads operates on a block schedule with 2-hour instructional blocks of Math/Science on Mondays and Wednesdays, 2-hour blocks of Language Arts/Social Studies on Tuesday and Thursdays, and a modified schedule on Friday to accommodate hands-on learning experiences off campus.

Courses Offered: PE/Health, Math, Science, English Language Arts, Social Studies, Connections, and Life Skills.

Class size: 7 - 8 students.

Connections and Lunch: "Connections" class is taught every day from 11:00 - 11:30 a.m. During this time, students learn about who God is and how to have a personal relationship with Him. Students learn verses, study sections of the Bible, and hear stories of life change from people in the community. After Connections, we have lunch from 11:30am- 12:00pm. This is a great time for students to visit with mentors, volunteers, and guest speakers! Students play board games, shoot hoops outside, or just relax in the living room area.

We are so blessed by Park Cities Baptist Church that provides grocery money each month so that we can serve a light breakfast in the morning and lunch each day. We appreciate so much the financial help from PCBC as well as the other members of the community who help prepare and serve meals to our students!

Crossroads is a closed campus. Students stay on campus throughout the day. Because some of the students struggle with substance abuse and because the school is located in an area where drugs are very accessible, students must remain with staff at all times while they are on campus.

Field Trips: Students have opportunities for hands-on learning via field trips to places such as the Science Place at Fair Park, the Dallas Museum of Art, the annual State Fair of Texas, college and vocational program visits, and tours of local businesses. During the 2009-10 school year, our students visited Cisco Systems and the J.C. Penny Headquarters, among other sites.
