The Robotics Program at CCA

Beginning in 2009, thanks to a generous donation from The Greater Texas Foundation, students at CCA have been able to compete in the  FIRST Robotics Competition, sponsored by NASA, GM, Boeing, National Instruments, and Johnson and Johnson, and many others.

Contact us to inquire about volunteering for the Robotics Program. Volunteers are needed from January 8, 2011 until February 12, 2011.

Students are challenged to use a standard “kit of parts” and a common set of rules to solve a problem in a six-week timeframe. “Teams build robots from the parts and enter them in competitions designed by Dean Kamen, Dr. Woodie Flowers, and a committee of engineers and other professionals.”

"The varsity sport for the mind," FRC combines the excitement of sport with the rigors of science and technology. Under strict rules, limited resources, and time limits, teams of 25 students or more are challenged to raise funds, design a team "brand," hone teamwork skills, and build and program robots to perform prescribed tasks against a field of competitors. It's as close to "real-world engineering" as a student can get. Volunteer professional mentors lend their time and talents to guide each team."

At the March 2009 competition in Dallas, CCA students received the Judges Award for overcoming extraordinary challenges to participate in this exceptional competition.

In 2010, CCA students were team captains for the 7th place alliance (out of 52 teams from 7 states and 2 countries). As team captains, we were able to select two other teams to compete with us in the semi-finals. We selected the team Jesuit College Preparatory School from Dallas and the team from Blue Springs, Missouri.
